How it works

One quiet minute can protect a family.

Use the checker before acting, or sit with a parent, relative, or friend to check a message together.

Example message

MPESA ALERT: Your account will be suspended today. Verify now at mpesa-secure-ke.com and enter your PIN to avoid losing access.

Notice the deadline, trusted name, link, and PIN request. Together, those signals deserve a careful pause.

Example response

Very High risk
  • It creates urgency, which is often used to stop people from taking a moment to verify.
  • It asks for a PIN, OTP, password, or other private code. Legitimate support should not ask you to share these.
  • It involves sending money or changing a money-related account detail, so it deserves an independent check.
  • It uses a familiar service, bank, or public institution name. Scammers often borrow trusted names to look convincing.

What to do

Do not click, reply, send money, or share any code. Delete the message after taking a screenshot if you need to report it, then contact the named organisation through its official app, website, or trusted number.
